Marvin Mitchell, founder of Compass Retirement Solutions, didn’t originally plan to become a financial advisor. While studying law, he returned home to St. Louis to help care for his grandmother after she was diagnosed with cancer. Watching her navigate financial hardship during a market downturn had a profound impact on him. Despite being disciplined with her finances and saving responsibly, she lost nearly half of her retirement savings while also facing rising health care costs and taxes. Seeing how quickly a traditional retirement plan could unravel without proper tax planning, long-term care preparation, and downside protection inspired Marvin to change careers and focus on helping retirees protect what they had worked so hard to build.

After working at large financial firms, Marvin realized the future of retirement planning wasn’t just about pursuing growth, but about architecting strategies designed for preservation, tax efficiency, and long-term financial durability. He founded Compass Retirement Solutions to provide families with a more thoughtful and coordinated approach to managing the wealth they’ve worked hard to build. The firm focuses on helping individuals address key elements of retirement security, including risk management, income planning, tax strategy, downside protection, and legacy design.

Guided by the lessons he learned from his grandmother’s experience and the collective expertise of his team, Marvin built Compass with the goal of helping families generate sustainable income, reduce unnecessary tax exposure, and position their wealth to endure for generations.
